Ahoy hoy! It's been quite the minute, hasn't it? ...Who am I kidding, almost nobody reads these. But for my friends who do, hi! Or maybe in the future I'll hit it big for my riveting *checks notes* uber-niche TTRPG content. Yeah.
Anyways, I've been away from the scene from school and life and whatnot, but I want to come back! So with the new years, I think it might be neat to make a post once a week. I'm not going to hold myself to any rigid rules, just about a post a week to try and get the juices flowing.
Alright in the time it took me to transition to this third little "paragraph" I spent three days doing nothing. So I promise you I will not care that bad about it. I'll start with a quick rundown of my main setting, Kingdoms. Kingdoms is directly based on the Zine by Sophia Tinney (please go check it out, I want to convince her to write more, ha!), but has my own religious, developed-from-play, and here-and-there media inspirations.
In a World of Darkness
First, there was Adam. Then, ████ [Selfnote: Can't seem to pry into his history. Artifacts and context clues seem to imply he had his own advanced society, but remnants are scarce.]
First, there were the Godbloods. They led our civilization from dirt huts to towering palaces of stone and brick. Below them, the Highbloods, deigned by stature to be delegates and leaders of us, the Lowbloods, meagre servants and workers. We had ought to be grateful that the Godking and their fellow Godbloods have done so much to make the world safe for us. Except... the cities aren't safe from them, anymore.
Good morning, afternoon, or evening, kind reader. My name is Secret to you, and it will stay that way for as long as I live. Over the most recent reigns, the world has generated more and more Light, that we stave off the Dark, but it seems the Dark has only entered the hearts of our so-called rulers. The Northern Sanctuaries seem to hold steadfast to strange archaic values. Ironically, they are perhaps the second-most safe space for one fleeing any of the suspicious Luminocracy, the tyrant Apotheosis, barbarous Wintrefolk, or slaving Seliron Ring. The Brothers' Kingdom down south is a nice place to rest, but stay too long and you'll be caught in their feud all the same. If you can get free, head for the Tall Grass and the Satyrapy, who, though once tempted by the Dark, is easily the most welcoming and understanding of the cities of the known world.
And what have the Godbloods taught you of the known world? Surely you all know the Dark is dangerous, but few survive it. The Luminocracy, suspicious as it is, is good at informing its citizens of need-to-know information. Here is an excerpt from a Luminocratic adolescent information scroll:
I sincerely doubt you all were informed as such. They want to keep us in the mental dark, let us fear and hate and cower and cry as we build their temples and build their walls.Your parents or respective caretaker likely warned you previously not to wander beyond the edge of the torchlight. Few of you disobeyed, and fewer still disobeyed and remain able to read this passage. In school, dark was described as the absence of light; this is not inherently false, as dark cannot exist in the presence of light, however, it does not confer the fullest understanding. Instead, dark is best thought of as an organism, whose biology is incompatible with light, both literal and metaphorical. It acts with intent to spread and envelop, mock and break down. Within the transient dark lay Beasts, beings made of dark for to advance its will. This should give a definition full enough for an average citizen.
I'm here to ask if the walls are to keep the dark out, or to keep us in?
